Elian’s father urges end to battle

Hours after a federal appeals court affirmed his right to decide the fate of his son Elian, Juan Miguel Gonzalez asked his Miami relatives to drop the court battle and let him and his son “finally go back home together” to Cuba. While the court rejected the relatives’ request for an asylum hearing for Elian, it ordered father and son to stay in the United States to give the relatives a chance to appeal, extending the six-month custody fight by at least another 14 days.
